Coorg Coli Curry / Chicken Curry From Coorg.
I was given this recipe a long time ago , never got down to making it.
Not quite sure if this is the real thing , nonetheless it is delicious !
1 Kg Chicken - Cut as desired , wash and apply haldi. Dry roast the ingredients listed till Cinnamon and grind to a coarse powder along with the poppy seeds . 1 Tablespoons Poppy Seeds / Khus Khus ( Soak in water for 20-30 minutes ). 2 tablespoons Coriander Seeds. 10 Dried Red Chilies. 1 Teaspoon Jeera. 1 Teaspoon Black Peppercorns. 1/2 Teaspoon Mustard Seeds. 1" Cinnamon Stick.
In enough oil fry the onions till golden brow, then add the garlic and
fry another minute to color .Next add the ground masala and fry another 2
, then add the grated coconut and fry till you get that nice warm
coconut aroma and the masala turns a darkish brown , add the tomatoes
and cook till oil separates . You may need water however if you cook
this covered you wont, cool the masala and grind to a paste.
Heat 2 Tablespoons oil , return paste to wok , when it starts to cook
add the chicken and salt , bhuno on high for a minute ot two , reduce
heat and cook covered , stir occasionally .You may need to add water , I
added coconut milk extracted from the remaining coconut . Once
chicken is fully cooked add vinegar and a bit of sugar , add water if
you want a soft gravy ... blend well and adjust flavors . Delicious !
