Alu ( Potato ) Poata

400 grams potatoes peeled and cut into 1" or slightly smaller chunks .
5 - 6 tablespoons poppy seeds ( khus khus ) soaked in a bit of hot water for 10 - 15 minutes .
1 teaspoon onion seeds ( kilonji ) .
5-7 green chilies kept whole but with a slit .
1/2 teaspoon turmeric ( haldi ) powder .
Salt to taste .
Drain out the water and grind the poppy seeds to a fine paste , set aside for later use .
Smoke some mustard oil in a wok , when smoking remove from heat . Cool slightly , then heat again . Throw in the onion seeds , then the potatoes turmeric and salt . Cook covered adding a bit of water . When 90% done , add the green chillies , poppy paste . Cook uncovered till done .
A simple and very tasty dish !
